Impact stories from participants of online courses on professional drilling management Select testimonials from around the world

Description:

The online course on professional drilling management was first run in 2018 and again in 2019, and offered participants an introduction to the professional management of water well drilling projects and programmes. Most participants were already involved in the budgeting, planning, procurement, management, implementation, supervision, monitoring of water supply projects or programmes, or in water resources monitoring, regulation, or other governance aspects. The course provided an overview of what is required to improve professionalism in the organisations and countries in which they work. These two courses reached 172 people in 57 countries from Africa, Asia, Central America and the Caribbean, Europe, North America, Oceania, and South America.

This report documents impact stories from six course participants from around the world. Online interviews were used to gather their testimonies, which were consolidated into a report and a short accompanying film.

» Video: Groundwater today into the future: Impact stories from participants of online courses on professional drilling management

This short film presents the testimonials of six course participants from around the world. The stories show how adjustments have been made to institutional procedures, as well as redesigning of organisational standards for professional drilling management. In some organisations, the attendance of the course, coupled with interest and determination by the participants themselves, has led to the inclusion of mandatory supervision of all drilling procedures through the engagement of a resident consultant. Thanks to the training and its application, new policies have been drafted to shift contractor risk of dry holes to a shared risk. And last, but by no means least, the course has impacted on professional personnel who are educating future generations in the formal education sector.
