Sustainability of Community Managed Rural Water Supply in Post-Conflict Regions of Northern Uganda A research project report submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the award of the degree of Master of Science of Loughborough University.

Description:

There is increasing recognition of challenges with community managed rural water supply and lack of sustainable results. Aspects of institutional, financial and service delivery sustainability have not been realized as anticipated. Despite these challenges, it remains the prevalent methodology for rural water supply implementation. The study region of rural northern Uganda is an area facing both post-conflict stresses and aspects of rural disparity. Achieving sustainable rural water supply remains elusive even within the welldeveloped national policy for the water sector in Uganda that integrates community management methodology into the government framework. The research objective is to determine the extent to which reliance on the community based management method has supported sustainable water supply in this post-conflict environment and identify factors of success and failure.
