The 2010 RWSN “Myths” publication marked a turning point for Welthungerhilfe. Its findings, particularly the 30% failure rate of rural water systems, were initially met with scepticism. However, driven by a commitment to sustainability, they presented the publication to their management and initiated a thorough review of their own project outcomes. The results revealed a striking alignment with the publication’s findings, prompting WHH to recognise the limitations of their existing approach. This realisation in turn catalysed a shift towards a system-based approach.
