This webinar offers an introduction to WHO’s latest drinking-water quality guidelines and support tools, tailored to the challenges and opportunities associated with small water supplies, including reflections from practitioners on implementing WHO’s recommendations and guidance in diverse contexts.

Session objectives:
1. Raise awareness of the Guidelines, including key recommendations and supporting tools (including the sanitary inspection packages)
2. Encourage the implementation of the Guidelines’ recommendations by governments and those who support them (e.g. NGOs, development partners)
3. Raise awareness on future initiatives planned to further disseminate the Guidelines and build capacity to support operationalization

WHO’s 2024 Guidelines for drinking-water quality: small water supplies have been developed to address the needs and opportunities associated with small supplies to facilitate progressive improvement toward safe and sustainable drinking-water services for all. The guidelines present recommendations related to drinking-water quality regulations and standards, risk management approaches and surveillance programmes that balance public health protection and resource realities.

As a separate but complementary publication, WHO’s 2024 Sanitary inspection packages – a supporting tool for the Guidelines for drinking-water quality: small water supplies provides practical resources to aid implementation of the Guidelines, in particular recommendations related to proactive risk assessment and risk management practice.
