Wells of Life - Tanzania
Information
Wells of Life – Tanzania is a registered non-profit organization formed through the united efforts of professionals and community members with skills and experience in water, health, sanitation, community development and environmental management.
Officially registered in June 2025 under the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children in accordance with the laws of the United Republic of Tanzania pursuant to Section 12(2) of Act No. 24 of 2002, the organization was granted Registration No. 00NGO/R/9099. However, its work began in 2020 through grassroots initiatives in underserved informal settlements of Chamazi Village.
The organization was established in response to the increasing number of orphaned and vulnerable children lacking adequate support, as well as persistent challenges related to unsafe water, poor sanitation, inadequate hygiene practices, and preventable diseases such as cholera and diarrhea. These challenges continue to disproportionately affect women, children, and marginalized populations in underserved communities.
To address these issues, Wells of Life implements integrated community-based programs aimed at promoting health, access to safe water, sanitation facilities, hygiene education, and environmental sustainability, while supporting orphans and vulnerable children across Tanzania. Its interventions combine practical and affordable solutions such as borehole drilling, shallow well construction, and rainwater harvesting systems with participatory approaches including Participatory Hygiene and Sanitation Transformation (PHAST) and School Health Clubs.
The organization also applies a Human Rights-Based Approach (HRBA) to promote equity, inclusion, accountability, and the realization of the right to safe water and sanitation for all. Through strong community engagement, donor collaboration, and strategic partnerships, Wells of Life – Tanzania continues to deliver sustainable and impactful interventions in hard-to-reach urban and peri-urban communities. The organization remains committed to building healthier, safer, and more empowered communities where children and families can live with dignity, hope, and opportunity.
