The Implementation of Handpump Schemes for Rural Water Supplies in Africa

Description:

A synthesis of completed and current handpump schemes is given for much of Africa and the key issues of project implementation are discussed. A major aspect of handpump programmes as yet largely unresolved is the organisation and funding of the maintenance and the proposals of many countries are summarised. Conclusions are drawn from a summary of country data on handpum pschemes and serval recommendations are made. The completion of the construction phase markets the beginning not the end of the rural water supply project.
