Description:
This project follows a previous project (A.9161 December 1985) which established good wear Characteristics for composite plastic bearings manufactured from nylon 66 and polyacetal (Delrin 500). The composite plastic bearings were adopted for use in the Afridev handpump. A number of bearings fitted to the Afridev handpump in the field have recorded higher than anticipated wear rates. This project was commissioned by the ODA and the World Bank in an effort to determine whether the high wear rates were in any way related to the high humidity and elevated temperatures found at many installation sites.
