Africa is one of the regions most in need of innovative solutions for tackling water and climate change-related challenges; yet many parts of Africa are also suffering from the lack of water-related skills and capacity as well as wide-spread institutional fragmentation. In this context, RWSN is pleased to announce that it has signed an MoU with the AfriAlliance.

The AfriAlliance project, led by IHE Delft in the Netherlands, aims to better prepare Africa for future climate change challenges by having African and European stakeholders work together in the areas of water innovation, research, policy, and capacity development.

RWSN and AfriAlliance will harness the power of our networks to share knowledge and connect research on climate and water issues, to enable cross-fertilisation of the AfriAlliance Action Groups and the RWSN thematic groups, and to build lasting networks in the water sector in Africa. We will explore the opportunities and conditions to jointly provide for strategic research and innovation for water and climate in Africa by specifically looking at how mandated African institutions can be supported to facilitate research and put innovation into use.

L’Afrique est l’une des régions ayant le plus besoin de solutions innovantes pour relever les défis liés à l’eau et au changement climatique. Pourtant, de nombreuses régions d'Afrique souffrent du manque de compétences et de capacités humaines dans le domaine de l'eau, ainsi que de problèmes de fragmentation institutionnelle. Dans ce contexte, RWSN est heureux d’annoncer qu’il a signé un protocole d’entente avec AfriAlliance.

Le projet AfriAlliance, dirigé par IHE Delft aux Pays-Bas, vise à mieux préparer l’Afrique aux futurs défis liés au changement climatique en favorisant la collaboration entre les parties prenantes africaines et européennes dans les domaines liés à l’innovation , la recherche, les politiques et du développement des capacités du secteur de l'eau.

RWSN et AfriAlliance exploiteront la puissance de leurs réseaux pour partager les connaissances et faire le lien entre la recherche sur les problèmes liés au climat et à l'eau, afin de permettre les échanges entre les groupes d'action AfriAlliance et les groupes thématiques RWSN, et créer des réseaux durables dans le secteur de l'eau en Afrique. Nous étudierons les possibilités et les conditions permettant de fournir des activités de recherche et d’innovation stratégiques dans les domaines de l’eau et du climat en Afrique, en examinant plus particulièrement les moyens d’aider les institutions africaines mandatées à faciliter la recherche et à mettre les solutions innovantes en oeuvre.
